Meeting traceability requirements for your medical deviceĭocumentation is the cornerstone of traceability. You don’t want to find yourself in a position where you’re needing to manually reconstruct something that should have been done months earlier. This often happens when teams wait until the last minute to create their traceability matrix. It’s relatively easy for mistakes or oversights to happen. Secondly, as with most manual systems, this approach is prone to error. This takes a lot of time and effort and can quickly become unwieldy as the design of your device grows. Validation may include clinical or simulated performance evaluations, which is why it is important to use terms in your User Needs that are not too ambiguous.Ī traceability matrix can be created using Excel or some other spreadsheet tool however, this method can present several challenges.įirst (and probably the most obvious), it’s a manual system meaning that all information has to be keyed. This closes the loop and shows how your design has fulfilled the original User Need. This could be shown in the form of released drawings that show the geometry and tolerances of the device, or through testing.ĭefine how you will validate that your design has met the User Need. For example, if the Design Input requirement states that a device must be a certain size, this may be included in a drawing which would become one of the Design Outputs.ĭefine how you will verify that your design has met the specification. Design Outputs show that you have incorporated the Design Inputs into your design. For example, “The device must be X lbs +/- Y lbs.” There may be other Design Inputs that come out of a User Need asking for a device to be “portable” as well, such as battery-operated power, or geometry requirements.ĭefine Design Outputs that meet your Design Inputs. Instead of using ambiguous terms such as “lightweight,” or “small,” Design Inputs should be both measurable and attainable. Translate your User Needs into Design Inputs. “Why did we add this feature? Because the user needs the device to do X.” For example, “The user needs a device that is portable.” Ideally, these User Needs will come from actual users. How do you create a traceability matrix? There are a few key steps required:ĭefine your goals in the form of User Needs. This bird’s eye view of your design process allows your team to manage projects more effectively than ever before. It can help you trace and define complex needs and expected outcomes. When done effectively, a traceability matrix will allow a medical device manufacturer to see a clear path between the resulting physical product and the design history, including evidence of quality controls and that the goals you have set have been met.Ī traceability matrix is also an excellent internal tool for project management purposes. The underlying importance of the traceability matrix is that it helps to ensure your team can gain quick insights into relationships in your design as well as ensure everything is accounted for and nothing is missed during the Design Control process.įor example, a traceability matrix can help you quickly determine how a particular design input relates to user needs, how a design change can impact your design validation process, and how any change can impact your testing and verification processes. What is a traceability matrix?Ī traceability matrix is a visual representation of the relationships and linkages between key areas of your design process, for example, your User Needs, Design Inputs, Design Outputs, Design Verification, and Design Validation. Here’s what you need to know about what a traceability matrix is and how to create one.įREE RESOURCE: Click here to download a PDF of 5 steps you can follow to create a traceability matrix for your medical device. The ability to demonstrate traceability also plays a very important role in the submission of your device. E) the methods to ensure traceability of design and development outputs to design and development inputs. Illustration of the octet rule in the covalent bonding together of the 2 N atoms in N2. Figure 3.6 shows bond formation between 2 N atoms. Recall the Lewis symbol of the N atoms showing 5 dots to represent the 5 outer-shell electrons in each N atom. To see a simple application of the octet rule in chemical bonding, consider the bonds involved in molecular elemental nitrogen, N2. This tendency of atoms to acquire stable octets through chemical bonding is the basis of the octet rule, which is used in this book to predict and explain the chemical bonding in a number of compounds, such as those discussed in Chapter 4. Such an electron configuration can be shown by the general Lewis symbol,Īnd is known as an octet of electrons, where X is the chemical symbol of the noble gas.Īlthough only atoms of noble gases have octets as single atoms, many other atoms acquire octets by forming chemical bonds. Other than helium, these all share a common characteristic of 8 outer-shell electrons. These are argon (atomic number 18), krypton (atomic number 36), xenon (atomic number 54), and radon (atomic number 86). In addition to helium and neon, there are four other noble gas elements. (Recall that helium has a filled electron shell with only 2 electrons.) Because it has a filled outer electron shell, neon is a noble gas that exists as single gas-phase atoms and forms no chemical compounds. With 8 electrons, the second shell of electrons is a filled electron shell. The total of 10 electrons in the neon atom are contained in two shells with 8 in the outer shell. Its most common use is as a gas in tubes through which an electrical discharge is carried in glowing neon signs. Neon is recovered by distillation of liquid air. Neon is a gas consisting of individual Ne atoms that constitutes about 2 parts per thousand of the volume of air. Although most neon atoms have 10 neutrons in addition to the 10 protons in their nuclei, some have 12 neutrons, and very few have 11. This element is neon, atomic number 10, atomic mass 20.18. Only one element remains to complete the second period of the abbreviated periodic table. Of course, the particle physicists would complain, but they are weird enuff, and few enuff in number to deal with the change. It would have saved generations of quantum chemists from getting the right magnitude but wrong sign in their answer, just because they counted odd instead of even or vice versa in their calculations on many electron systems. It would have been so much more convenient, had electrons been assigned a POSITIVE charge, and thus protons would have therefore been assigned a NEGATIVE charge. Historically, the electrons were assigned a negative electric charge. For #""^20Ne# we have assumed that the nucleus contains 10 neutrons were 11 neutrons present, we would have #""^21Ne#. This is something you won't learn about in a chemistry class. Interactions between protons and neutrons, at impossibly short nuclear ranges, are strong enuff to overcome electrostatic repulsion between like charges, and bind the nucleus together. here we gots #Ne^(2-)#, or #""^20Ne^(2-)# to specify a likely individual isotope.Ītomic mass depends on the number of nucular particles, the aforementioned protons, but also #"neutrons"#, massive nuclear particles of ZERO electric charge, that also comprise the nucleus. And thus we have a very unusual ion here, because there are more electrons than protons, and the atomic particle therefore has an associated electric charge, i.e. The NEUTRAL element contains precisely the same number of negatively charged extra-nuclear particles, that are conceived to whizz about the nuclear core and of course these are the #"electrons"#. #Z#, #"the atomic number"#, specifies the number of protons, positively charged, massive particles, present in in the element's nucleus.

The old-fashioned, nostalgic feeling of times past that the fabric has. I knew I wanted it very geometric and masculine looking. Then I doodle on graph paper and try to come up with a balanced design using uneven numbers of panels to make it interesting. I begin with knowing about how big I want the quilt to end up. I'm not sure there is a real answer to that. I'm always asked how I come up with a design. I used just one panel in my design, but if you purchased three, you could put train engines in all the large rectangles and use a continuous row of trains in the top and bottom borders. I was delighted that this one was printed pretty straight. The challenge of working with a panel, any panel, is that they aren't always printed straight on the grain of the fabric and so I almost always need to add a fabric "frame" it to correct that. Talk to us about working with the panel for your design. In their posting guidelines, they define the standard thus:Īs a general rule, if a reader could look outside and disprove your story, it’s not going to work for nosleep. The moderators mostly select and discard stories along a standard they call “believability”. There are, as it turns out, a surprisingly sophisticated set of moderating principles that go into maintaining the immersive fictional powers of NoSleep. The moderators also deleted a couple of speculative stories posted about the fate of the doomed MH370 plane, on grounds that they were posted too close to the real events. “I just didn’t want the hassle of having abuse hurled at the sub,” Kerrima said, so she removed it. “Like, it’s a fictional solution to a real crime that happened.” The crime involved the disappearance of a woman, and someone who had known the victim wanted it removed. “There was someone who tried to write a story that solved a real crime,” said Kerrima. To a regular reader of NoSleep the thing was plainly fiction, but several websites used a headline that made it sound like fact: “This Guy’s Story About His Dead Girlfriend Facebooking Him Might Be The Scariest Thing On The Internet.” Both BuzzFeed and Jezebel, for example, republished a NoSleep story about a boyfriend who was receiving Facebook messages from his dead girlfriend. In fact, in an interview this week, NoSleep’s moderators seemed more irritated about the journalists who sometimes drive by and lift stories onto their own websites, misleading casual readers to believe they are true. Perhaps cynicism is an obvious byproduct of spending so much time in a state of suspense. To them, calling the police about a story posted on NoSleep is the decided mark of a rube. In fact, an audio recording of a call to a local store in Mammoth that one NoSleep reader made at the time, sees a clerk giggling about the fuss ginned up by a “damn website”.įor their part, NoSleep’s regular users were sharp on a separate thread about the “overly paranoid silly geese” who made the calls, writing that they deserved about “three years of time out”. Yet just as some historians contest that any “ mass panic” followed that broadcast at all, it’s not clear Mammoth residents were overly bothered by the confusion. They likened it to the famous hoax of the 1938 radio broadcast of HG Wells’ The War of the Worlds, long said in urban legend to have terrified a large swath of America. At that point, the media got involved.īoth the Arizona Republic and USA Today wrote stories about the incident. They called the Mammoth police department, and they called local businesses to ask if the online reports of the epidemic were true. But apparently a few casual readers, coming across the story (which was actually part of a series, but only the Arizona instalment took off), felt concerned. Pretty standard stuff for a horror story, not even particularly original. The post cut off with the writer pleading: “The sirens have me terrified and the sun is almost down here.” The CDC, the writer said, was ignoring her frantic calls, but some kind of authority seemed to be closing in. The mysterious disease was now afflicting the poster’s sister. The plague had then spread to the kids, and to their families. The elderly owner had collapsed and died after bleeding from the ears and screaming in a fit of rage – and the children had been with her at the time. The epidemic began at a daycare, the writer said. It described the outbreak of a mysterious disease in a small town called Mammoth, population 12,000. For example, just under a year ago a popular NoSleep writer posted an item titled WTF is going on in Pinal County, Arizona?. What many NoSleep stories have in common is that it's impossible to know exactly what happenedīut the indeterminacy of a NoSleep story can backfire. What both stories have in common is that it’s impossible to know exactly what happened the unsettled feeling they leave behind is wholly a function of the answers the authors never give. The story, which you could say is about demonic possession, is told in an epistolary mode, each episode proceeding by emails, texts and blog comments. Meanwhile, Khristopher Patten, another moderator who by day is a PhD student in cognitive neuroscience based in Arizona, said his favourite is a series called Correspondences, written by a user who goes only by the name “bloodstains”. Kerrima likes a story called Free Coffee with Order of Pie, which deposits the reader in a diner in the middle of nowhere that is visited by a mysterious, prescient stranger. Take, for example, the stories NoSleep’s moderators cite as their favourites. The best ones are rarely gory, a function of the fact that images are more or less banned – you can link to them, but only sparingly. The vague, unresolved nature of the stories are key to their appeal. ‘Everything is true here, even if it’s not.’ Photograph: Alamy These music are great for relaxing, meditation, massage, yoga, learning, studying, reading, thinking, sleeping, working, dreaming, traveling, etc.Ĩ06K subscribers ⋅ 2.6K ⋅ 320 ⋅ 1 video / week ⋅ Jan 2012 Get Email Contact More Relaxing Music by Prayer Pray The OCB (One Conscious Breath) relaxing music series helps you calm down.
