Should you play Zuma Blitz when it opens to the public (which should be sometime in December)? Hell yes - it's free and it's fun, and if you hate those things, then you're obviously a, um, fun hater. (And yes, I know that, as a for-profit company, making money is the point, but I like to pretend it's all about my entertainment.) That said, (a) the game is still very fun, (b) it's still in beta, and (c) PopCap has a great history of incremental improvements to its games. Maybe it's just because I've been spoiled with unlimited life in Bejeweled Blitz, but PopCap seems like a company whose ultimate goal is to make fun and just happens to make money doing it - and this just feels a bit more mercenary than I like to imagine. Leveling up refills your life meter completely, and you also get the chance to flip a coin, with a winning flip refilling your life meter. You get a finite number of lives that regenerate with time as you level up, you earn additional lives and they regenerate more quickly. The only thing that bums me out about the game is that it currently employs a typical Facebook tactic of limiting how much you can play in one sitting. Each week the scoreboard resets, giving you a fresh chance to land on top of the heap, and each week also brings a new Zuma board, so you'll have new challenges to keep things interesting. ![]() Not earning mojo fast enough for your liking? Then you can head to the store and buy more for real cash, along with special boost potions that let you gain extra experience or earn double the mojo for the next 24 hours. Zuma Blitz has leveling as well, and as you gain experience, you'll unlock powerups - such as an end-of-round blast for extra points or a starting score multiplier - that can be purchased with the mojo that you earn after playing a round. ![]()
